| Background | Zinc finger protein 76 (ZNF76) is a ~61 kDa protein. Transcription factor that regulates expression of genes transcribed by both RNA polymerases II and III. Specifically recognizes and binds the Staf-binding site (SBS), a consensus DNA-binding motif present in many promoters. Able to activate expression of small nuclear RNA (snRNA) transcribed by RNA polymerases II and III. Also regulates expression of mRNAs and acts as a DNA-binding transcription repressor that inhibits the activity of the TATA-binding protein (TBP). 1. Kubota, H. et al.
