| Background | Wheel complex protein P24 is a ~24 kDa protein. Component of the wheel complex, part of the cytoskeleton-like structure in the attachment organelle which stabilizes the shape of the wall-less Mycoplasma. Might play a role in coordinating gliding initiation with P41 (Probable). P24 alone does not restore gliding motility or frequency to a P41-P24 disruption, but it is required for full wild-type gliding frequency and for correct initation of attachment organelle formation. The attachment organelle is involved in gliding cell motility and adhesion to host cells. 1. Nakane, D. et al. (2015) PLoS pathogens 11, e1005299. PMID: 26633540 2. Kenri, T. et al.
